An engineering company in the Czech Republic
An engineering company in the Czech Republic hired a temporary agency to
find workers to be employed as machine operators on metal cutting machines. They found these workers outside the Czech Republic, but given that the agency had a problem to find a suitable accommodation to house these workers in an easily accessible location nearby the engineering firm, they actually organized for them, for a small financial payment!, to be sleeping in the area of the machines on a mattress directly on the ground.
It went further: the agency also proposed the workers to use the minimalist washroom facilities for staff at the premises, lunch purchases could be made in the company restaurant and refreshments for the morning and evening meals could be bought also in the company cafeteria. The result was that the employee worked during the complete day, except for those pauses when it was time for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The evenings were for washing and sleeping. In fact their complete life was at the workplace, the right (!) to pay for food and housing area was totally linked to the company. At the beginning of the third millennium after Christ! Is this a view of humanity - the mobility of the market economy at the cost of new forms of slavery?!?!?
