Action against precarious employment
In the week of 4-8 October 2010 the EMF is organising the third consecutive action against precarious employment. The week coincides with the ITUC’s World Day for Decent Work on 7 October.
- The massive expansion of precarious work must be stopped
- Where precarious work does exist, wages and conditions must be equal to those of regular workers and full coverage of social security should be guaranteed
- Workers should be directly hired and indirect employment discouraged
- Basic job security has to be guaranteed, as well as full protection in the field of health and safety
Therefore urgent trade union action is required. The global action day is a clear signal to employers and governments all over the world that this is no longer acceptable.
The EMF policy guideline on the struggle against precarious work and the promotion of decent work.
What is precarious work?
Precarious employment is a very wide issue. The way you perceive it, the way you feel it, the way you experience it is very personal. It relates to the direct job situation in the plant, in the company (the kind of contract you received, the way you are paid, the information you get, …) but also to your position in the wider society (how is your job looked upon, how well respected, how is it considered, …).
Collective Bargaining Collection DVD
The EMF has produced a DVD entitled 'Collective Bargaining Collection', which includes the EMF film 'Precarious Work - Precarious Lives', as well as documentation on collective bargaining.

Campaign logo
The EMF has created an action logo for the global campaign against precarious work. This logo gives this campaign a clear transnational image and we would like to propose that our members use this logo on all campaign material that they are publishing.
