About the campaign
Global action against precarious employment
In the week of 3-10 October 2009 the EMF and IMF are organising the second consecutive global action against precarious employment. The week coincides with the ITUC’s World Day for Decent Work on 7 October.
- The massive expansion of precarious work must be stopped
- Where precarious work does exist, wages and conditions must be equal to those of regular workers and full coverage of social security should be guaranteed
- Workers should be directly hired and indirect employment discouraged
- Basic job security has to be guaranteed, as well as full protection in the field of health and safety
Therefore urgent trade union action is required. The global action day is a clear signal to employers and governments all over the world that this is no longer acceptable.
The EMF composed a policy guideline on the struggle against precarious work and the promotion of decent work.
For more secure employment, against precarious work
The EMF Collective Bargaining Policy Conference 2009 launched the 2nd Common Demand:
“For more secure employment, against precarious work”,
which will be included in the collective bargaining demands of all its 75 affiliated trade unions and in future collective bargaining rounds throughout Europe over the next four years.
